To
complete our version of the Shop Hop Quilt, you will need 1 1/2
yards of background fabric (white), assorted fabric scraps, and
1 yard for outer border and binding.
Make one each of the 12" blocks and two
each of matching 6" mini block.*
Make twelve 4-patch blocks. To make the
blocks, cut each square 3 1/2" and sew to a 3 1/2" square
of the background fabric. We used the leftover fabrics to
create a scrappy look.
Stitch together two 4-patch blocks and
two 6" blocks to create a 12" block. Follow the diagram or just
do your own thing!
Add an inner "float border" of the
background fabric. Cut the the inner border 1 1/2" wide.
Cut the outer borders 4 1/2" wide and
add to the quilt top. Layer, quilt and bind.
*To make the 6" mini versions, reduce
the size of each section by subtracting the seam allowance,
divide the measurement by two, then add back the 1/2" for the
seam allowance. For example, if the original piece uses a 6 1/2"
square, subtract the seam allowance ( 1/4" x 2 = 1/2") , divide
the remaining measurement by two ( 6" ÷ 2 = 3" ), then add back
the seam allowance ( 3" + 1/2" = 3 1/2" ) to get the cut size
needed for the mini block. |
